Being a divorced and raising your
child alone is a real challenge! It was a bright sunny day in Epsom and my son
Dennis and I were having a breakfast on the table. “Mamma, I want some more jam
on the bread.” said he. “Here you go darling.” I said as I put some strawberry
jam on Dennis' plate. While biting on my bread, I started mulling over what had
happened last week. Nick and I had filed for a divorce. We were fighting over
the custody of Dennis. Dennis was the apple of my eye and there was no way that
I could hand him over to Nick. “I will make sure that you do not get the
custody of Dennis; Miss Green” said Nick when he called to warn me for taking
the case back.” “Your warnings are sheer words, Mr. Carter!” said I as I
slammed the phone down. I was in tears as I put the phone down.
The thought of letting go of my
child was killing me. I quickly dialed my uncle's number who was a solicitor in
Hounslow. He knew a lot about law for
getting a child's custody. His company had a huge customer base in Hounslaw and they were a leading
solicitor company. Though he lived 41 minutes away from where I stayed, he took
out his precious time for hearing me out. I explained him the entire situation.
“Life is strange, It had barely been 3 years since Nick and I got married and I
figured out that he was cheating on me. I had to fight, uncle. We have a
child!” I said. “Relax dear, I promise you that you will get Denis' custody.”
My uncle was my only hope. My parents had passed away in an accident before a year.
There was no one except one or two of my friends to support me. Hell had broken
loose!
After some prolonged court sessions
and dirty fights between me and Nick, I finally won the custody of my child. I
was very happy. But something was still breaking me up inside. I had sacrificed
my entire career as a hairstylist after marriage. Nick was earning quite a
handsome amount and it was a mutual decision not to work after Denis birth so
that I can take care of him. But I had no idea what was happening behind my
back. Though he was liable to give me some of his assets and finances after
divorce and I was getting it, I had decided to work at a hair salon in Worcester
Park which was quite near to my place.
“Momma, it’s time for me to go to my
class” said my 2 year old son, bringing me back to time. “Oh yes dear.” said I.
I had admitted Dennis to a toddler class in
Kingston which was about 15 minutes away from my house. It
was a gymnastic class which contributed to the physical and mental growth of
the toddlers. There was no way I could leave my son at home while I am away for
work. It was great activity for Denis as it enhanced his physical growth and
cognitive skills. I used to drive him to these classes every day. But as it was
way past the regular timing, I quickly called for cab in Kingston
from a renowned company. It had reliable drivers and I trusted them for their
services as I had taken them before. “Please drop him safely.” I requested the
driver. “Don't worry ma’am, your child is in safe hands.” said the driver. I
waved goodbye to my cherub and rushed to my workplace.
It had been past an hour when I got
a call from an unknown number. “Hello” I said. “Hello, Miss Green?” said the
unknown voice. “We are cops calling from your house.” “What??? Is everything
alright?” I exclaimed. “I am afraid that
it's not ma'am. There has been a theft at your place. I would request you to
report here at the earliest.” “Ok” I said as I put the phone down. I
immediately rushed for my home. While driving I was thinking about all the
important papers, jewellery and cash that I had left in the cupboard. I always
used to check the cupboards before I left. There's no way they could have been
broken.
As soon as I reached I saw cops
around my house. “What's wrong?” I asked. “You have been robbed ma'am. It is
always advisable to keep your important belongings in the bank. I am afraid you
might not have done that.” “How did you come to know about the theft?” I asked.
“Your neighbors had seen some strangers breaking into your house and they
called. But by the time we could reach, the disastrous was done.” said the cop.
“Let me check,” said I as I rushed into my bedroom. It was a relief to see all the papers and
files at their place. But I was robbed of almost 10, 000 pounds. “Do you doubt
someone ma’am?” “Nobody” I said letting go of my suspicion on Nick as the
papers and files were safe. “We are registering complain on your behalf ma'am.
Let us see what we can do about it.” “Thanks a tons sir. It means a lot to me.
Please do whatever it takes and let me know if I can come of any help.” The
cops left.
Tragedies were happening in my life
after I got divorced. I cried and blamed myself and god for everything that had
happened. I didn't deserve this. But no one else except me could pacify me. I
wiped my tears and immediately decided to call for a firm offering fencing services in
Surrey. It's high time I get the fencing done to protect my
house, I thought. The company providing fencing service near my house was the
most popular one and they had flawless fencing ideas to stop thefts. But money
was the first thing that I needed before calling for any service. I immediately
remembered the golden necklace and earring set that was given to me by my
mother as a birthday gift a year before she passed away. I had kept it in the
bank as it was very precious to me. I had no choice but to sell gold for cash and it was the
worst day of my life ever! With tears in my eyes, I drove to the bank and got
those precious pieces of jewellery home. In no time, I sold them off online for
cash.
What an unfortunate day! I thought
as I drove off to pick up Dennis from his class.
